A sanctuary is the equivalent of a temple in vanilla RoN, and is vital for a variety of reasons:
- It increases the city's national borders, hit points, and attack range, essentially making it (much) harder to capture.
- The Sanctuary also researches religion . Despite the increasingly agnostic nature of the modern world, religion is not to be sniffed at and is a vital component for some technologies.
- As a building dedicated to propagating the metaphysical ideologies of your nation, the Sanctuary also serves to convert the denizens of your colony to your cause. As such, a variety of foot mercenaries are available for duty from the Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary may appear to be a smallish temple or church based in a crowded graveyard. By the Imperial Era, however, it can be converted into a large and magnificent complex, dwarfing even the city boroughs around it.
- Non-Christian, non-Muslim factions: Temple. No bonuses.
- Protestant factions: Church. Big LOS increases with Science upgrades.
- Churches use the vanilla system of RoN - either they're small Gothic churches or clapboard buildings like in the USA.
- Catholics: basilica. +4 Wealth ramp, but has +5 LOS, more HP.
- The basilica is by far and large the most variegated of all building styles.
- European (m, n) - uses Rise of Kings' old system.
- Baroque (i) - used by various nations, particularly Bavaria.
- Orthodox: lavra. +3 LOS, - HP. Can see hidden units, but requires +1 Knowledge as part of its ramp.
- Muslims: Mosque. 50% faster construction tine, but has a HP penalty. Cannot be captured by the enemy. Can be garrisoned (5).
- Mosques are styled indigenously, and have a distinct appearaance:
- Red mosque (k) - used by Asian factions
- White mosque (m) - used by Ottomans, fits in with Roman tileset.
- Desert mosque (s) - thgis is a Shia mosque.
